Korean crypto market data and regulation, in English
Korea changes its virtual asset rules several times a year and publishes almost all of it in Korean only. This section carries the parts that are hard to obtain from outside: what the current rules actually say, when each provision takes effect, and a market series that does not exist elsewhere in English. Everything cites its primary source and is free to quote, embed and reuse with attribution.

Key dates in Korean virtual asset law
A single amending instrument can commence on several different dates. English coverage routinely merges them, in both directions. These are the dates that matter, each confirmed against the Korean text.
- 19 Jul 2024In force
Virtual Asset User Protection Act in force
Korea's dedicated user-protection statute takes effect, covering deposit segregation, unfair trading and supervisory powers.
More on this - 20 Aug 2026In force
Tightened VASP registration and screening
The amended Act on Reporting and Using Specified Financial Transaction Information takes effect, with financial-soundness and social-credit requirements for providers, their executives and major shareholders.
More on this - 1 Jan 2027Scheduled
Taxation of virtual asset gains begins
Gains are taxed as other income at 20 per cent, 22 per cent including local income tax, above an annual deduction of 2.5 million won. The start date has been deferred more than once.
More on this - 19 Feb 2027Scheduled
Transfer provisions take effect
Articles 10-10 and 10-20 of the Enforcement Decree commence: the reporting threshold between domestic providers is removed, receiving providers must refuse transfers that arrive without the required information, and obligations extend to addresses the provider does not exclusively control. The operative criteria are delegated to notices that have not yet been issued.

Inside Korea's Overhaul of Crypto Transfer RulesSigned article by Jay Park on the two-stage commencement of Presidential Decree No. 36592, citing Tegong's Korean text and translation of Article 10-10.
All pages
- Transfer Provisions (Text & Translation)Articles 10-10 and 10-20 of the 2026 Enforcement Decree in the Korean original with a working English translation. The operative text exists nowhere else in English.
- Tether Premium (Daily Record)A dated daily series of the USDT premium against the USD/KRW reference rate, with the raw inputs and a CSV download. Built to be cited.
- Kimchi Premium (Live)Real-time price gap between Korean and global exchanges, with the FX rate and formula used.
- Travel Rule 2026South Korea removed its KRW 1 million threshold and tied self-hosted wallet withdrawals to identity verification.
- Crypto Tax 2027Taxation starts 1 January 2027. A one-time cost-basis reset makes 31 December 2026 the date that matters.
- Regulation TrackerWhat is in force, what is approved but not yet enforced, and what is still stuck in the National Assembly.
- Data, API and ReuseEvery endpoint, the licence, the citation forms and a copy-and-paste embed. Everything on this section is free to republish with credit.
- Press and Media InformationWho publishes this, how it is funded, how corrections work, and what a reporter can get before a deadline. Boilerplate ready to paste.
For reporters and researchers
- Every page carries a Cite this page box with a ready-made sentence, the source URL and, where one exists, the DOI.
- The premium chart can be embedded or hot-linked. Both forms update themselves and carry the source line, so a figure published today stays correct.
- Regulatory pages show a status label — in force, approved but not yet enforced, scheduled or pending — because that distinction is what English coverage most often loses.
- Raw data:
/api/marketfor live prices,/api/market/historyfor the daily series in JSON or CSV.
Who publishes this
Tegong is a Korean-language community and market-data site for Tether and TRON users in South Korea, run by Jay Park. Korean financial regulation is read here from the primary documents as they are issued — the Acts, the Enforcement Decrees and the releases of the Financial Services Commission and the Korea Financial Intelligence Unit — and the market data is compiled and published alongside it.
This is an independent operation. It is not a law firm, an exchange, a broker or a custodian, and it takes no position in the assets it writes about.
Corrections are welcome and acted on quickly. If anything here conflicts with a primary source, the primary source is right — write to [email protected] or via Telegram. Corrections to the statutory translation are credited.
What this section is not
Not a translation of the Korean site. The Korean community carries wallet guides, transfer troubleshooting, scam case discussion and a glossary — material aimed at Korean users that would add nothing to the English web. Only what is genuinely hard to obtain in English is published here. If you read Korean, the main site has considerably more.
